Valerie Castlle, The mother of 32-year-old Philando Castille who was shot multiple times by a Minnesota Police Officer, reached a $3 Million Settlement according to statements from the city and the family’s attorneys.
“Jeronimo Yanez, who is leaving the force, was acquitted June 16 of second-degree manslaughter and two counts of intentional discharge of a firearm that endangers safety. Castile was killed July 6 during a traffic stop, and his girlfriend streamed the shooting’s aftermath on Facebook Live.” (CNN)
The Statement also stated, “No amount of money could ever replace Philando. With resolution of the claims the family will continue to deal with their loss through the important work of the Philando Castile Relief Foundation.” The statement continued by saying, The loss of Castile is tragic for the community and the city. Castile worked for St. Paul Public Schools for more than a decade.
The $3 Million Settlement was announced one week after the family of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri reached a settlement from a civil suit. The settlement was for an undisclosed amount.
